The Argentine playmaker Pablo Aimar has praised the quality of his compatriot Lionel Messi , who is already on par with Diego Maradona as one of the best footballers of all time. In a lengthy interview published today with sports
newspaper “A Bola”, Aimar, now in his fourth season at Benfica , had nothing but praise for his Argentinian teamate.
“For years and years I thought would never come a player like Maradona, and yet I see now that Messi is at that level,” he said.

In a situation of having to choose between which one is better, Aimar said that “in the heart of the Argentine and that of those who like football there is room for both.”
Also speaking about Messi´s main rival for the Golden Ball , the former River Plate player said the the goal scoring record of the Portuguese international are second to none,”I have no doubt that, if there were no Messi, Cristiano would be the best player in the world far above the rest .
Aimar also highlighted the high level of football both La Liga teams Real Madrid and Barcelona where playing and considered them as the two best teams in the world.

“I think if Chelsea , Manchester , Milan , Inter and Bayern , for example, were playing in the same league as Real Madrid and Barcelona, those teams would always end up beneath the two Spanish giants,” he said.
The Argentina international, 32, went on to say that he had not been happy during his time with Benfica, with the contract ending next June there is question marks over his future.
“I would quit football, not soccer leave me”
Aimar did not clear up any doubts about his future, but acknowledged that if returned to Argentina, his priority would be to return to River Plate .
“I do not know when I will stop playing. I would not want to continue playing for some extra factor, I just would not. I respect those who do, but I have the clarity or intelligence to quit football and not allow the football to leave me,” he said.
Despite being a veteran at Benfica , Pablo Aimar remains one of the most influential players at the Liga Sagres club and will surely be missed when he does indeed decide to move on or hang up his boots.
