Stephen El Shaarawy finally signs a deal with the Serie A champions
Stephen El Shaarawy has completed his highly-anticipated transfer from Genoa to AC Milan while Alexander Merkel has made his move to Genoa permanent after failing to cement a place in Massimiliano Allegri’s future plans.
AC Milan signed 50% of Stephan El Shaarawy for a staggering €10m, with Alexander Merkel and half of his contract (apparently worth €5m) heading the other way.
The announcement was made official through Milan’s official club website, and was revealed to have been a co-ownership deal. Despite his tender age, El Shaarawy has attracted the interest of many big clubs from around the continent, including Inter, but the Rossoneri have won the race for his signature.
Highly-rated playmaker El Shaarawy, born in Italy and with an Egyptian father, impressed on loan at second-tier Padova last season and his move to Milan is the latest in a string of deals between the Rossoneri and Genoa.
U19 midfielder Merkel broke into the Milan first team last season but will now get a chance to be a regular at Genoa.
